The Club was formed in 1957
when the local battalion of the Home Guard was disbanded. The First ten members
shot at the Drill Hall in Broad Street, Stratford upon Avon, for a number of
years and also at the Warwick School Range.
In 1990 the increased
membership took over a deserted Ex R.A.F. building on Bearley Airfield. After
many months of hard work by the members the 25-yard indoor range was opened for
rifle and pistol shooting. Click here to see more pictures of our range under
construction. After the pistol ban more rifle disciplines were introduced and
now the Club has about sixty members shooting regularly on five nights a week.
Our range has extensive
shooting options:
The range also has a large club
room with separate ladies and gents toilets and a kitchen.
Club Nights
The club has an informal,
friendly atmosphere and members can take part in many competitions as they like
or just turn up and enjoy some casual practice.
Members and probationary
members of the club are free to use a selection of club guns. These include a
.22 prone rifle, .22 sport rifle, .357 gallery rife, .177 air pistol and a .177
target air rifle with equipment for shooting for the blind.
Membership Applications
Membership is open to all, providing applicants are not prohibited under section 21 of the
Firearms Act 1968 (what
is a prohibited person?). All new members must
complete a 6 month probationary period. Application for membership must be made
in person to a club official or at the range during official shooting times of
any of the above mentioned sections. Prospective members must complete an
application form which is available by visiting the range on a club. The
applicant will need to provide a character reference or reference from a
present or previous gun club. Junior members need a parent or guardian to
countersign their application form and accompany them on club nights.
All new members will be given a
copy of the Club's standing orders and novice members will receive one to one
tuition on range safety, the safe handling of firearms and of course - how to
hit the target! Probationary members must attend the club on regular basis
before they can be considered for full membership.
